"Do the work. Be a creator!" - My Mentor, Mr. K

Hi. This is not at all how I anticipated the start of this journey.

My name is Latina. I'm a 17 year old aspiring journalist and my mentor just passed away.

Right off the bat, I want to dedicate this blog to my high school video production teacher. He has helped build, construct, and detail this path that I am going on. He is the sole reason why I am continuing to move forward with my dreams. He's been there when, at first, this whole thing was a big "maybe." And he was there when that "maybe" changed into "this is my dream. I'm doing this."

I am well aware of how competitive the journalism field is, and Mr. K was there and was the one to physically expose me to the exact type of competition that'll be present. Both in the classroom and out.

He was more than a teacher. He was a mentor, a father-figure, and most importantly a friend to every single student he has ever had.

This is my way of healing, but quite frankly I don't think this is something that I'm going to be able to get over. So please, I invite you to join me on this journey in keeping Mr. K's memory alive, and with my dreams.
